Peer Advisors expand capacity of Career Services to meet students' needs

Posted on Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Career Services is introducing the 2010 -2011 team of Peer Advisors.  These students receive extensive training before they meet one-on-one with students to critique resumes and cover letters and administer mock interviews. They also present workshops to student organizations and residence hall communities on career readiness topics.

The 2010-11 Career Services Peer Advisors are:  Katie Moorman, Ellen Nuss, Amanda Schickel, Brittany Fett, Darion Watson, Jenny Gibbs, Libbe Hassenfritz, Allison West, Gabe Tovar, Nick Sibenaller, David Miller, Amanda Boyer and Kasey Tumilty.

The Peer Advisors will fulfill more than 500 requests for one-on-one resume appointments per semester, conduct more than 200 mock interviews and critique more than 400 resumes via e-mail.  They will assist with career fairs, manage transportation for international guests attending the 2011 Overseas Fair, host employers who are interviewing UNI students and assist with follow-up data collection.  Peer Advisors work approximately 10 hours per week.

Sarah Goblirsch and Libby Vanderwall, Career Services, are the staff coordinators for the Career Services Peer Advisors.
