Angie Steffen is the new pharmacist at the Student Health Clinic Pharmacy. The pharmacy is located in the Student Health Center and is part of University Health Services. Angie will assist personnel who fill prescriptions and help students who are seeking over-the-counter medications.
Angie was previously employed as a pharmacist at Walgreens. She is a graduate of The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy.
Angie acknowledges that a visit to the Student Health Clinic Pharmacy may be students’ first independent experience with health care systems. “We are introduced to prospective students on campus visits and again to admitted students at summer orientation,” she said. “Our shared goal is to support students who are managing chronic health care conditions, who need relief from the symptoms of illness including colds and flu, and who want to manage a healthy lifestyle.”
The pharmacy staff works closely with other professionals and support staff in the Student Health Clinic to assess and treat illness and then to file insurance claim paperwork. “The cooperation of a team of professionals, the beautiful facility here and the opportunity to work with students made this a very easy career move for me,” said Angie.
The new pharmasist has an image of the ideal experience students will have when they come the Student Health Clinic Pharmacy, “We want students to be comfortable when asking all the questions they have about their medication. We also want them to know the expected response to treatment and what to do if they need additional treatment,” Angie said. “We want students to have a high expectation for our service and knowledge. Then they will be confident when transferring prescriptions to the Student Health Clinic Pharmacy or transferring ongoing treatment for diabetes, asthma or allergies to the Student Health Clinic.”
The Student Health Clinic Pharmacy is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
