The 2012 Student Leadership Awards presentation was held on April 17 at Maucker Union. Award winners were honored for their achievements throughout the year and throughout their collegiate careers.
The Helping Hand Award is presented to the top 2 percent of students who have given time and service to volunteer programs facilitated by the Student Leadership Center. Rhiannon Angel, Morgan Beitz, Misty Black, Nicole Bruhn, Megan Burge, Sara Byrd, Nicole Jurgersen, Katie Michalek, Carly Nieman, Melissa Pietig, Alexis Ptacek, Michelle Van Loon, Heather Werner and Allison Woodbury were presented the Helping Hand Award.
The Dr. Sue Follon Scholarship for Women in Leadership was presented to Emily Hanson.
Department of Residence Gold Star Awards for service and achievement were presented to Amanda Passmore, Kyle R. Myers and Kiley Schmidt.
Student Employee of the Year Award is Kayla Ferdon.
The Diversity Matters Award honors exceptional contributions to the achievement of the University’s diversity-related goals. It was presented to Eileen Hail.
The UNI Emerging Leader Award is designed to recognize a new member in a student organization who has demonstrated leadership in the organization, a commitment to developing his/her leadership ability, and has exceeded the expectations of their membership. That honor was earned by Ajay Abraham.
The Outstanding Student Leader Award is presented to students who have excelled and exemplified outstanding service, dedication and leadership through their involvement and participation in university recognized student organizations. The 2012 students honored with the Outstanding Student Leader Award are: Yaw Kyeremateng, Spencer Walrath, Jill Hohnecker, Ian Goldsmith, Ramon Cantu, Abbey Doering, Catherine Au Jong, Skylar Mayberry-Mayes and Megan Kammarmeyer.
The Lux Service Award is the most prestigious award given to undergraduate students each academic year to acknowledge their service to UNI. The Lux is the official university seal; it illustrates a burning lamp of knowledge and the Latin word Lux, meaning light. It is conferred in the spirit of keeping the light of service to others burning brightly at the University of Northern Iowa. The 2012 Lux Service Awards were presented to Joel Anderson and Ashley Stewart.
