Paula KnudsonWelcome to the Division of Student Affairs at UNI!  We provide connections and resources for students to be successful on their educational journey.  We aspire to develop partnerships that build a welcoming, equitable and engaging environment, and connect in-the-classroom learning with out-of-classroom opportunities.  By collaborating with others across the campus community, we challenge students to grow to their full potential.  Join us on this journey as we contribute to the development of students to become better leaders of today and better citizens of tomorrow.

Dr. Leslie Williams named as new Dean of Students

Dr. Leslie Williams has accepted the position to serve as the Dean of Students.  Dr. Williams, a native of Kansas City, has previously worked at Georgia State University, the University of Tennessee, and currently serves as Director of Student Conduct and Commuter Affairs at the University of Rhode Island.  She received her Ed.D. from Johnson and Wales, her M.S. from the University of Tennessee, and her B.S. from Central Missouri. 

 

Student Disability Services welcomes new staff member

Student Disability Services (SDS) welcomes Brittany Warren as the new Disability Specialist.  Brittany is a UNI alum, having received both her BA in Social Science Education and MAE in Post Secondary Education: Student Affairs from UNI.  As a student at UNI, she worked for the Department of Residence and also gained experience as a practicum student in the Student Disability Services office.  After graduating in 2011, Brittany began working as the Student Achievement Counselor in the Office of Academic Success at Upper Iowa University.  Part of her responsibilities included the coordination

Godon honored with Tourism Award

Tracey Godon, Senior Assistant Director of Career Services and Director of the UNI Overseas Placement Service for Educators, was recently honored as a “Waterloo Friend of Tourism” by the Waterloo Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Tracey was honored for her leadership with the UNI Overseas Teaching Fair.  The fair continues to grow, last year attracting more than 1000 teachers and recruiters to the Cedar Valley.

The UNI Jump Start Orientation Program is in its 14th year of providing new students from ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds with a "jump start" on their first year at the university. Jump Start is an extended orientation program that provides students with an opportunity to make a smooth transition to the University.

 

UNI Wins National MAP-Works Marketing Award

The University of Northern Iowa has been named recipient of the "2012 MAP-Works Excellence Award - Marketing" by Educational Benchmarking, Incorporated, a higher education consulting firm.  UNI won in the "large campus" category. The award recognizes UNI's innovative marketing plan and execution, related to engaging first-year students in participating in the MAP-Works survey program during fall 2011 and spring 2012.
